Arteta Threatens to Install Touchline Sensors After Yellow Card

Mikel Arteta has jokingly threatened to install sensors along the touchline after expressing frustration over what he believes is inconsistent punishment of Premier League managers.

The Arsenal boss made the comments after receiving a yellow card during his team's 2–0 victory over Everton, with goals from Ezri Konsa and Gabriel Magalhães securing three important points for the Gunners.

Arteta was booked by referee Tony Harrington for leaving his technical area during the match. However, rather than simply accepting the decision, the Spaniard revealed that he has been collecting footage of rival managers who he believes repeatedly commit the same offence without being cautioned. <Cite refs={["turn178365search0","turn178365search5"]} />

“I'm going to put sensors there!” Arteta joked when discussing the situation.

He then made a remarkable claim about the behaviour of other managers on the touchline.

“There are managers that have the record in the league, 36 times in 10 minutes, leave the touchline… and no yellows,” he said.

Arteta revealed that he has been saving clips of these incidents, building what sounds like an extensive collection of footage that he could use to defend himself if questioned about his own conduct.

“So I'm clipping ALL of that. So I have a massive storage of images now,” the Arsenal manager added.

Arteta running out of room for mistakes

Although his comments were delivered with humour, there is a genuine disciplinary concern behind them.

The booking against Everton was Arteta's second yellow card of the Premier League season for this type of offence. Another caution would trigger a one-match touchline ban, meaning he could be forced to watch a future Arsenal fixture away from the technical area.

The Arsenal manager clearly believes the rules should be applied consistently, particularly when managers are repeatedly stepping beyond the permitted boundaries during matches.

However, Arteta's claim about managers leaving the touchline 36 times in 10 minutes is his own assertion; it does not independently establish that officials have ignored the same number of offences.

Arsenal celebrate while Arteta makes headlines

The touchline controversy came on a successful afternoon for Arsenal, who defeated Everton 2–0 and moved level on points with Manchester City after City's 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa.

Konsa opened the scoring before Gabriel added the second, giving Arsenal a valuable victory in the Premier League title race.

Arteta praised his players' mentality after the match, particularly Gabriel's determination to continue playing following an injury scare before scoring.

For now, the Arsenal manager has two priorities: keep his team winning and avoid another booking that would leave him watching from the stands.

And if his comments are anything to go by, he will continue monitoring what happens in rival dugouts.

Would you support Arteta's idea of installing sensors on the touchline, or should managers simply stay inside their technical areas?
