Julián Álvarez Wins It for Atlético Madrid as La Liga Streak Hits Six
Atlético Madrid continued their impressive run of form with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Deportivo La Coruña, thanks to another decisive contribution from Julián Álvarez.
The Argentine striker scored the only goal of the match at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Saturday, October 24, securing Atlético’s sixth consecutive La Liga victory and extending his personal scoring run to two matches in a row.
Álvarez had also found the net in Atlético’s 1–1 Champions League draw away to Stuttgart during the week. His latest goal continued a welcome return to the scoresheet as Diego Simeone’s side maintained their momentum in the Spanish title race.
Álvarez delivers after the break
Atlético struggled to find their rhythm during the first half, with Deportivo creating dangerous opportunities of their own. Goalkeeper Jan Oblak was called into action to keep the visitors at bay, helping the hosts reach the interval without conceding.
The breakthrough arrived just three minutes into the second half. Alejandro Grimaldo drove into the left side of the penalty area before sending a low cross into the six-yard box, where Álvarez finished from close range in the 48th minute.
The goal proved decisive, although Atlético could not completely put the contest beyond their opponents. Deportivo threatened to snatch an equaliser late in the game, but Oblak produced another important intervention to preserve the three points.
Six consecutive La Liga wins for Atlético
The victory extended Atlético’s winning streak in La Liga to six matches, underlining their growing consistency as the season progresses.
The result also moved Simeone’s team to within two points of league leaders Barcelona ahead of the weekend’s El Clásico against Real Madrid. Atlético will be watching that contest closely as they look to remain firmly involved in the title race.
For Álvarez, scoring in consecutive matches could prove particularly important. After opening his account against Stuttgart, he followed it up with the winner against Deportivo, giving Atlético another crucial result in a tight contest.
The striker has also faced scrutiny from sections of the Atlético support following controversy surrounding comments about his future during the summer. After the match, he apologised to supporters, acknowledged their frustration and expressed hope that his performances could help rebuild their trust.
With six straight league victories and Álvarez finding the net again, Atlético have plenty of reasons for optimism. Their next challenge will be to maintain that momentum as the fixtures become increasingly demanding.
