Arteta Responds to Arsenal’s Planned Job Cuts
Arsenal job cuts could affect 60 staff as Mikel Arteta explains the club’s plans to evolve, improve and keep investing for success.
Arteta Responds to Arsenal’s Planned 60 Job Cuts
Mikel Arteta has addressed Arsenal’s planned staff reductions, saying the club explained that the restructuring was intended to help it “evolve” and “improve”.
The Arsenal manager was questioned about the proposed job losses during his press conference ahead of the Premier League trip to Nottingham Forest. His comments come just days after the club announced a new contract for him, reportedly worth more than £20 million per season.
Arsenal are planning to cut up to 60 jobs following a review of the club’s operations. The proposals have attracted attention because they come after a successful period on the pitch and shortly after Arteta’s new deal was announced.
Arteta Explains Arsenal’s Position
Speaking about the planned reductions, Arteta said: “It was explained to me about the exercise, and the analysis that has been done across the club, and with the intention always to evolve, to improve.”
He continued: “Some decisions have to be taken to put people in the right roles and keep investing to achieve what we want to achieve and the success that we want to create.”
However, the Spaniard made clear that he did not consider himself the appropriate person to explain the details behind the decision.
“Obviously, I am not the right person to answer that question. That’s for sure. And hopefully everybody will respect that,” he added.
Arteta did not answer further questions on the subject.
Why Are Arsenal Planning Staff Reductions?
The proposed job cuts follow an organisational review intended to improve the club’s efficiency and long-term operations. Reports indicate that several non-playing departments could be affected, while the men’s and women’s first-team coaching and performance staff are not expected to be included.
The timing has nevertheless raised questions among supporters and observers, particularly because Arsenal recently announced Arteta’s new contract.
The club has enjoyed significant sporting and commercial success, making the decision to reduce its workforce a talking point. Arsenal’s position is that the restructuring is intended to help the organisation operate more effectively while continuing to invest in its ambitions.
Focus Remains on Arsenal’s Season
Despite the attention surrounding the planned job losses, Arteta’s immediate responsibility remains preparing his squad for upcoming fixtures.
Arsenal travel to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, October 18, before continuing their Champions League campaign against Bayern Munich on October 21.
The club will hope the off-field changes do not distract from its objectives on the pitch. Meanwhile, questions are likely to remain about how the restructuring will affect employees and whether the changes will deliver the improvements Arsenal are seeking.
For now, Arteta has explained the reasoning communicated to him but has left the detailed justification for the planned job cuts to the club’s leadership.
