Isco Brace Fires Real Betis Above Real Madrid

Isco delivered a memorable performance on Sunday as Real Betis defeated Osasuna 5-2 in La Liga, with the 34-year-old midfielder scoring twice to help his side climb above Real Madrid into third place in the standings.

The former Real Madrid playmaker was at the heart of Betis’ attacking display at the Estadio La Cartuja, demonstrating that his technical quality and influence remain as valuable as ever. His brace helped Manuel Pellegrini’s side secure three important points and continue their impressive start to the campaign.

The victory moved Betis to 19 points after eight league matches, putting them one point ahead of Real Madrid and level with second-placed Atletico Madrid. Barcelona remained at the top of the table, five points clear of Betis.

Isco Shows His Class at 34

Isco opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half after Rodrigo Riquelme won a penalty. The midfielder remained influential as Betis continued to create problems for Osasuna’s defence.

Ez Abde extended the hosts’ advantage before half-time, while Betis added another goal early in the second half. Osasuna responded with two goals to reduce the deficit to 3-2, briefly threatening to turn the match around.

However, Isco stepped forward again when his team needed him most. His second goal restored Betis’ two-goal cushion and stopped the visitors’ comeback from gaining further momentum.

José Antonio Morante added a fifth goal deep into stoppage time to complete the 5-2 victory.

Isco’s performance was a reminder of the creativity, composure and intelligence that have defined his career. Having previously starred for Real Madrid, the Spanish midfielder has found an important role at Betis, where his experience continues to shape the team’s attacking play.

His contribution was warmly appreciated by the home supporters, who gave him an ovation as he left the pitch.

Real Betis Move Above Real Madrid

The result carries significant importance for Betis beyond the three points. Moving above Real Madrid into third place underlines their ability to compete near the top of La Liga during the opening stages of the season.

Betis have combined attacking quality with consistency, winning six of their first eight league matches. Their only league defeat so far has not stopped them from establishing themselves among the early challengers.

For Pellegrini, Isco’s influence provides a major advantage. The midfielder can dictate the tempo, create opportunities in tight spaces and deliver decisive contributions when matches become difficult.

Betis will now look to maintain their momentum as the season progresses, knowing that consistency will be essential if they are to remain among the leading teams.

A Standing Ovation for a Player Who Still Delivers

Isco’s brace was more than a personal milestone. It helped Betis secure a statement victory and strengthened their position ahead of a demanding run of fixtures, including their upcoming meeting with Barcelona.

At 34, the midfielder continues to demonstrate that experience and technical quality can make a decisive difference in modern football.

Real Madrid may have moved on from Isco, but his performance offered another reminder of what they once had. For Betis, meanwhile, having a player capable of producing such influential displays could prove crucial to their ambitions this season.

With the supporters celebrating and the league table looking increasingly encouraging, Isco and Real Betis have plenty of reasons to believe that this campaign could become a special one.
