Jorge Jesus Allegedly Threatened With Sacking Over Ronaldo Apology

The growing dispute between Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal manager Jorge Jesus has taken another dramatic turn after a close friend of the coach claimed that Jesus was threatened with dismissal unless he publicly apologised to Ronaldo.

Carlos Padrão, a former Portuguese goalkeeper and friend of Jorge Jesus, made the allegation during an appearance on SIC Notícias' Jogo Aberto. According to Padrão, Tiago Craveiro, a strategic consultant linked to Ronaldo's company, contacted someone within Jesus' entourage and allegedly warned that the Portugal manager would be removed from his position if he did not open his next press conference with a public apology to Ronaldo.

Alleged Apology Script Was Prepared

Padrão went further, claiming that an attempt was made to prepare a script for Jesus to follow during the press conference.

According to his account, the proposed statement was intended to formally apologise to Ronaldo and settle the increasingly public dispute between the Portugal captain and his manager.

Jesus allegedly refused to follow that approach.

Instead, Padrão says the coach acknowledged that he had made a mistake and explained the circumstances surrounding his decision, but deliberately stopped short of issuing a formal apology.

“Admitting a mistake is one thing, apologising is another,” Padrão said, explaining the distinction between accepting responsibility for a decision and delivering the public apology that had allegedly been demanded.

The Ronaldo-Jesus Fallout

The latest allegation comes after Ronaldo himself broke his silence on the controversy surrounding his departure from Portugal's training camp.

In a lengthy statement, Ronaldo accused Jesus of breaking agreements they had reached regarding his role during the international window. Ronaldo said he had been willing to play 30 minutes against Norway after Jesus approached him with the proposal, only to remain on the bench after warming up.

Ronaldo later claimed that Jesus also failed to deliver on an agreement about how the situation would be explained publicly, prompting the forward to leave the national-team camp.

Padrão's account now adds another layer to the dispute, suggesting there were intense discussions behind the scenes about how Jesus should respond publicly.

Jesus Reportedly “Very Sad” Over the Situation

Padrão also claimed that Jesus was deeply saddened by how the entire situation had developed.

The former goalkeeper said he had spoken with the Portugal manager and described him as being particularly affected by the conflict with Ronaldo. According to Padrão, Jesus remains an admirer of Ronaldo and had previously played a role in persuading the forward not to announce his international retirement after Portugal's World Cup exit.

That makes the current breakdown particularly significant. Jesus and Ronaldo had already worked together at Al Nassr before reuniting with Portugal, making their relationship more complicated than that of a conventional player and national-team coach.

Ronaldo Camp Yet to Publicly Confirm Allegation

The claim about the alleged threat has not been independently established, and it is important to distinguish Padrão's account from confirmed actions by the Portuguese Football Federation.

There is no reported confirmation that the FPF formally decided to sack Jesus or instructed him to apologise. Padrão specifically said the alleged warning was made to someone in Jesus' entourage rather than directly to the coach.

For now, the allegation adds another explosive chapter to a dispute that has already seen Ronaldo leave camp, Jesus defend his decisions and both sides offer different versions of what happened behind closed doors.

With Portugal's recent results under Jesus remaining strong, the focus is now increasingly shifting away from what happened on the pitch and towards the battle of trust and influence surrounding one of the biggest names in world football.

And if Padrão's allegation is eventually substantiated, the Ronaldo-Jesus dispute could prove to be far more serious than a simple disagreement over playing time.
