Kylian Mbappé's legal dispute with Paris Saint-Germain has reached another major turning point after French investigating judges closed the criminal investigation into allegations of psychological harassment against the club.

The decision, which dates back to May 2026 but was reported publicly on October 2, brings an end to this particular legal case involving the former PSG superstar and his former club.

Mbappé had withdrawn his criminal complaint in July 2025, following a turbulent period in his relationship with the Parisian giants. According to reports citing sources close to the case, judges concluded that there were insufficient grounds to continue the investigation after the player's withdrawal.

The PSG 'Loft' Controversy

The case was connected to Mbappé's treatment during the summer of 2023, when PSG placed him in a separate group of players after he declined to extend his contract.

The French forward was left out of the club's pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea and trained away from the main first-team group. The situation attracted widespread attention, with questions emerging over how PSG were handling the future of one of their biggest stars.

Mbappé eventually returned to the first-team setup, but the relationship between the player and the club remained strained. He later confirmed that he would leave when his contract expired in 2024, joining Real Madrid on a free transfer.

In May 2025, Mbappé filed a criminal complaint accusing PSG of psychological harassment and attempted extortion of a signature. He subsequently withdrew the complaint in July of that year.

Why Did French Judges Close the Case?

The investigating judges in Paris issued a non-lieu, a decision to close the investigation without sending the case to trial.

According to sources cited by French media and the AFP news agency, the judges found that there were insufficient charges to justify continuing the proceedings. They also considered Mbappé's withdrawal of the complaint a significant obstacle to further investigation.

The reasoning reported by sources close to the case was that questioning witnesses and those implicated would serve little purpose when the complainant himself no longer supported the complaint.

Importantly, the decision should not be interpreted as a court finding that every allegation was false. It means the criminal investigation ended without sufficient grounds to proceed.

Mbappé and PSG's Financial Dispute

Although the harassment investigation has ended, the wider history of Mbappé's legal conflict with PSG also involved a separate financial dispute.

The player had pursued unpaid salary, bonuses and other contractual payments after leaving the club. In December 2025, the Paris labour court ordered PSG to pay him close to €61 million.

PSG decided not to appeal that ruling, making the financial decision final.

The financial case and the criminal harassment complaint were separate legal matters, so the closure of the criminal investigation does not erase the outcome of the employment dispute.

A Difficult Relationship Finally Turns the Page

Mbappé's departure from PSG was one of the most closely followed transfer stories in recent football history. What began as a high-profile partnership ended amid disagreements over his contract, his future and the club's handling of his final season.

Now, the closure of the harassment investigation removes another legal chapter from the long-running dispute.

For PSG, the decision brings an end to this particular criminal investigation. For Mbappé, it marks the conclusion of a case he had chosen to withdraw, while his career at Real Madrid continues.

The legal battle over the harassment complaint is over. But the story of Mbappé's turbulent PSG exit remains a defining chapter in the career of one of football's biggest stars.
